Dogs and Shopping

Below, a photo of your correspondent's latest purchase...

... a bicycle cargo trailer.

It was reasonably priced and was bought from the Swedish company Biltema. As befits a shop from the home of Ikea, it came as a cardboard flat-pack and had to be assembled by the purchaser.

The sharp-eyed will notice there are bars around the outside of the wheels. This design feature somewhat surprised me since they add weight to the trailer but don't seem to bring any benefits. Returning from my maiden trip, taking old newspapers to the recycling centre, I discovered what they are for. They are 'dog bars'.

Near to Thomas's school I overtook a couple walking a dog. To my surprise, their Rottweiler attacked my trailer. The animal managed to overturn the trailer, but I righted it quickly and went on my way. I didn't stop to discuss the incident with the dog's owners.

Why are people allowed to keep such violent animals? Espcially, since the type of person attracted to owning dogs like Rottweilers and Pit Bulls tends to be unsuited to the rigours of training and caring for dogs of such a temperament.

Anyway, let's hear it for the trailer 'dog bars', they probably saved my right calf from serious damage.

To finish, and maybe a little off-topic, a video for you all to enjoy.
